Vandana & Arun fall in love at first sight. Out on a visit to a Shiv temple, they get married in front of God. When they get started, they get stuck due to rains. They make love. Just when their marriage was about to take place....Arun, who is an Airforce pilot is called on duty. On duty, his plane crashes. While dying he makes Vandana promise him that she will make their unborn son also an Airforce Pilot. Vandana has the baby in another town. On the advice of her doctor, she leaves the child in a orphanage and goes to adopt the child legally the next day. But fate play a cruel hand and the child is adopted by Ram Prasad Saxena and his wife. Vandana meets Ram Prasad and explains her story. He tells her to work as a nurse maid in his house to she can be close to her baby and she can give the child Suraj, a good upbringing. His wife does not know about Vandana's story. When Shyam, Ram Prasad brother-in-law molests her, Suraj tries to protect her and kills Shyam. Vandana takes the blame on herself and goes to prison for 12 years. When she comes out she stays with the Jailor, as his sister. The jailor's daughter Renu loves Suraj who is also an Airfore pilot. When Vandana sees him she recognises him as her son but does not tells anyone one when Suraj sees his childhood photograph with Vandana and Vandana and Arun's photo he realises the recret of his truth. When he is awarded the Airforce award he adressed Vandana as his mother on stage and all her life's sacrifice is rewarded

Jeevanlal is a crooked man living in a village in India who makes money by stealing.His wife Sita is a woman of principles and she doesn't like her husband doing any criminal activity.Both have a son,Dharamchand and a daughter named Meena.One day Jeevanlal steals from the Tehsildar's home, returns to his home and hides the stolen property with his son.The police arrive at his house and start enquiring the young Dharm about his father.Dharm honestly gives away the stolen properties with him to the policed officers.Jeevan gets arrested and he lands in prison.He begins to start hating his son for putting him into trouble.Years go by and now Dharm has grown up man and he loves his mother a lot.He also has a girl friend named Gauri Malikram,daughter of the village money lender.Gauri was a wild tom boy who after falling in love with Dharm becomes a sensible girl and wishes to get married to him.Dharm now has taken the occupation of farmer and he does well for himself and his family.Even now Jeevanlal still harbours hatred towards his own son.Jeevanlal even visits brothel and gives away the money kept by Dharm for his sister's wedding to a dancerDharm, an animal lover does not like the cows being sold after they are old and useless.He respects cows and worships them.But Jeevanlal decided one day to sell the cow,which is opposed by Dharmchand.Jeevanlal strikes his son with a stick and to defend himself Dharam picks up another stick.Sita goes and stops the fight and scolds Dharm for disrespecting his father.Sita asks him to get lost and on hearing this Dharm leaves the village and comes for work to Bombay.He gets to work with a building contractor and from whatever he earns send his savings to his mother.After few months,Sita receives a letter that Dharm is coming back to home.Sita feels escalted and on the day he is supposed to reach the village,she decides to receive him in the village bus stand.But on reaching the bus stand she learns from bystanders that Dharm has already left for the house.When Sita reaches home she finds Dharm with an axe and her husband dead.Sita falls in a delimma as she knows Jeevanlal and Dharm never got along with each other but she never expected that Dharm would kill Jeevanlal.Sita still does not believe that Dharm would have killed his father.Dharm gets arrested and his lawyer is Ravi Sharma.It is then that the truth will come out what really transpired between father and son that compelled one to kill the other.

The key character in the movie is an artist called Dilip Roy (Rajesh Khanna). Soon Dilip marries a pretty girl called Sushma, who is very demanding. She feels neglected when he spends his time on his paintings. There is an argument on their anniversary, when Sushma, attacks his paints and takes away his brushes. Dilip in a fit of rage, strangles his wife with his bare hands. Sushma's sister, witnesses this, and calls the police. Dilip is arrested and sent to an institute for psychiatric sessions with Dr. Trivedi (Jagirdar) .
Soon, Dilip escapes from this institute and breaks into a house with a lady called Nanda (Rekha) , in it, alone. Dilip decides to stay there for sometime as the police is looking for him.
However, there is a twist in the story which leaves Dilip also astounded.

This is an emotional movie by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. It is set in the pre-independence era. The story revolves around two friends, Satyapriya (Dharmendra) and Naren Sharma (Sanjeev Kumar). Naren is emotional yet practical and he values the truth above all else, that is, his career, family and life itself. In his first job, he works for a Dewan. Satya, strives to protect Ranjana (Sharmila Tagore) who is the illegitimate daughter of his manager David (Rustomjee) and has been raped. Satya, though the idealist, is unable to accept Ranjana and her child completely and so even through his idealism, his normal human nature comes through. Later when Naren appears, he makes compromises to move ahead in his career. However, Satya cannot accept these compromises. His grand father, a learned man though, follows ceratin traditions and does not allow Satya's illegitmate child to light the pyre and covers this up by saying he is still too young. But the child realise that he is not allowed to do so because he is illegitimate. The grand father feels ashamed and accepts both Ranjana and the child as his own family of takes then to his village.

Raj likes to gamble and place bets about virtually anything, including befriend an attractive woman, Pinky, and pretending to her brother, while carrying on his romance with his sweetheart, Sapna Singh. The second time Raj sees Pinky is in a coffin being carried to her grave, while he consoles her dad, someone shoots him dead, leaving Raj to take the blame. The third time he sees Pinky singing and dancing at a New Year's Party; the 4th time he sees her posing in a photograph with Sapna; and the 5th time he is introduced to a very much alive Pinky by Sapna, where she refuses to recognize him, and shortly thereafter she is found dead in Sapna's house; and the 6th time both Sapna and he find her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.
